Rally raid roadbooks · a Rally POV project

From GPX track to roadbook, ready to race.

RoadBookAI reads your track and the roads of the area, proposes every note with a realistic drawing, CAP and annotations, and leaves the final word to you. Then it takes the RoadBook into the app for Android and iOS, opens the stages at the right time and brings the race data back to the organiser.

What it is

A roadbook drawn the way you would draw it by hand, in a fraction of the time.

RoadBookAI follows your track metre by metre and finds the points that matter: junctions, roundabouts, changes of surface, bridges, fords, railways, off-track sections. For every note it draws the true shape of the track and the roads around it, with CAP, dangers and annotations.

In the Studio you review the roadbook note by note, validate it or redraw it where needed, and save your versions. Hours of work become minutes of review, and the final RoadBook is always yours.

Who it's for

For those who organise and those who race.

Organisers

The whole race, from the roadbook to the results.

Roadbooks with FIM waypoints and versions after every recce. Then the event: entrants from a spreadsheet, encrypted stages that open on each rider's phone at their own time, stage rules, live tracking for race control, results calculated by the service and a replay of every rider.

Riders

Train with a real roadbook, race with the same cockpit.

The app for Android and iPhone puts the RoadBook on your handlebars: a cockpit with the controls you want, remote control, GPX navigation on an offline map, free public roadbooks, training with your tutor and a replay of your rides. In a race you find the stages under My events, ready at your start time.

How it works

From the track to the cockpit, all the way to the results.

  1. GPX

Upload the track: RoadBookAI reads the roads and tracks of the area on its own.

  2. Roadbook

Every note comes with its drawing, CAP, dangers and surface, at the density you prefer.

  3. Review

In the Studio you validate, reject, correct and redraw; add waypoints and save versions.

  4. Export

RN2, PDF Dakar, OpenRally GPX and the RoadBook in the app, with one tap.

  5. Event

Entrants, start times and rules: each stage reaches the phone encrypted and opens at the start time.

  6. Race

Android and iOS app on the bike, live tracking for race control, results and replay calculated by the service.

The Studio

RoadBook Studio online, simple and fast.

Validate or edit one note at a time. The RoadBook is drawn to the dimensions of the PDF Dakar: arrow keys to move along it, C to confirm, S to reject, ten notes in a row without touching the mouse.

The Studio editor: on the left the satellite map with the track and the notes coloured by status, in the centre the Dakar-style RoadBook, on the right the details of the selected note
The Studio editor: map, RoadBook and note details.

In the race

Race control sees the stage live.

The apps send position and track as soon as there is a network connection, and in any case at the end of the stage. The live view shows who is racing, who has stopped, who is off course; the service recalculates waypoints, speed, race STOPs and times from the track, with the stage rules, and publishes the results by class and by RoadBook or GPX category.

After the stage the replay compares the riders, with the RoadBook following along next to the map and the mistakes explained in plain words.

The app

The same cockpit on Android, iPhone and iPad.

The RoadBook drawn like the PDF Dakar, FIM waypoints, speed zones, race STOPs and neutralisations. It works offline; stages open with GPS time.

Safety and training

Reading the RoadBook is the first rule of safety.

Riders who follow another rider or the tracks on the ground stop reading the notes and miss the dangers exactly where they pass. The app measures it: in training it warns "CHECK THE ROADBOOK!" when the RoadBook falls behind; in a race it only records it, and the organiser decides whether to penalise it. It is also a matter of fairness: a rider who follows exploits other riders' navigation.

If you take a wrong turn, the off-course alarm and the back-track arrow take you back along your trail. Dangers 2 and 3, speed zones and race STOPs are announced in advance, with sound and voice.

LateNote

The RoadBook falling behind, measured on the track: a warning in training, only recorded in a race.

Off course

Alarm after the chosen km and a back-track arrow to the last validated waypoint.

Tutor

The tutor reviews the group's rides and leaves comments at the point on the track.

Offline

Roadbooks, maps and recording on the phone; the data is sent automatically when the network comes back.

Principles

The rules RoadBookAI never breaks.

The track is never touched

Your GPX stays identical, point by point: it is never moved or snapped to the roads.

Every note explains itself

For every note you can see where it comes from, with what confidence and why it was proposed.

Nothing gets lost

A rejected note comes back with one click; saved versions never change again.

Recce (reconnaissance) mode

Go out on a recce and record voice notes with the app: the AI processes them and proposes them as edits in the Studio, at the right point on the track. You listen, accept or reject.

The service is the referee

Results are calculated from the recorded GPS track, with the stage rules: the same for everyone, recalculable, with every correction in the log.

Stages arrive encrypted

Each rider receives their stage in advance, with their own key: it opens at their start time, with GPS time, even offline.
