FAQ

Short answers to the most common questions about RoadBookAI, the Studio, the map, the AI, exports and access.

Can the generated roadbook be used in a race as it is?

The generated roadbook is the starting point: you review it in the Studio and, like any roadbook, you confirm it on the ground. The map knows nothing about local orders, closures and temporary bans: the recce completes the job.

Is my track modified?

Never. The GPX stays identical, point by point: it is not moved or snapped to the roads. Even the drawing editor only changes the note drawing, not the track or the km.

Why is a road that exists missing from a note drawing?

Because it is not on the map, or it is not inside the frame of about 200 × 155 m around the note. RoadBookAI does not invent roads: you can add it by hand in a few seconds with the drawing editor.

How many notes should I choose?

Standard for most roadbooks: about 2 notes per km, as if drawn by hand. Detailed if you want a note at every junction (about 4 per km), Essential for a lean, Dakar-style roadbook (about 1 per km) with nearby events merged into "ET à X m". See Which one to choose.

Why isn't there a CAP on every note?

With the Standard choice, the CAP appears only where it helps: start of an off-track section, exit onto a faint track, complex forks. Never on asphalt or in a village. You can add it from the inspector, or choose Essential (CAP on every note).

I rejected a note by mistake.

Rejecting does not delete: the note is at the bottom of the RoadBook, in the Rejected section. Select it and press ↺ Restore (or the R key).

I closed my browser halfway through a review: have I lost my work?

No: the draft is saved with every action. Reopen the roadbook from the library and carry on.

What does the artificial intelligence do, and what doesn't it do?

The engine that draws the notes follows explicit rules based on the track and the map: every note states its source, confidence and reason. RoadBookAI's artificial intelligence steps in during a recce, to read the transcriptions of voice notes and propose what to do with them. No proposal enters the roadbook without your "Accept".

Are my voice notes sent anywhere?

The audio is not: transcription takes place on our server. For interpretation, only the text reaches the artificial intelligence service. Details on the Privacy page.

Which programs open the exported files?

RN2 opens in the roadbook apps and software that read this format, the most widely used; OpenRally GPX in the navigation apps that read that format; the PDF is printed on A4; the RoadBookAI file with the RoadBookAI app for Android and iOS. See Export.

Can I edit the RN2 in another program and then bring it back into the Studio?

The Studio exports RN2 but does not re-import it as a roadbook to review. Our advice: make your corrections in the Studio, where versions and history are kept, and leave any finishing touches in other programs as the last step.

Does it work outside Italy?

Yes, wherever the map has data: RoadBookAI has already worked on tracks in Italy, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia and Morocco. The system picks up the roads of the area by itself, even for long stages.

How much does it cost and how do I get access?

Access to the Studio is by invitation: from the Request access page you can ask for an invitation and the terms.

Does the Studio work on a phone?

The Studio is designed for a computer: map, RoadBook and inspector side by side. On your navigation device you use the RoadBookAI app, for Android and for iPhone and iPad.

Does the app work offline?

Yes. Downloaded roadbooks, navigation, waypoints, alarms, the offline map and recording all work offline. Race stages also open at the right time without a network connection, using GPS time. Ride data waits on the phone and is sent automatically when the network comes back.

Who sees my race and training data?

Race stages are seen by the event organiser and their team; the public results show only name (or initials), number, class and team. Training rides are seen by the tutor of the groups you have joined, from when you joined, except the ones you hide. Without an account the data stays on the phone. See Training and replay.

Who decides the results: the app or the service?

The service. The app helps you navigate and records the track; waypoints, speed, race STOPs and times are recalculated on the service from the track, with the stage rules. The penalties you see in the app are indicative. See Stage rules.

Why does the app tell me "CHECK THE ROADBOOK!"?

Because the RoadBook has fallen a few notes behind the road you have ridden: it happens when you follow another rider or a track on the ground, and that is exactly where danger notes get missed. In training the warning helps you build the habit; in a race the app only records. See LateNote.

Can I use two phones, or a phone and a tablet?

Yes: one main and one backup (Settings › Device). Both record and the service merges the tracks; for the race the main one counts.

The stage does not open: why?

Check the reason written under the stage in My events: entry not accepted yet, no start time, rider blocked by the clerk of the course, or it is too early. The stage opens with the GPS time: go outdoors and wait a few seconds for the fix.

How long are a race's data kept?

Tracks, replays, reports and the decision log are kept for 3 years from the end of the event, then deleted automatically; the classifications remain as long as the event is published. The organiser can export everything at any time and receives a notice 30 days before. Training rides stay until you delete them. See the Privacy page.

Can a minor use RoadBookAI?

Accounts are for adults only. A minor holding a sporting licence can take part in an event only if the organiser enters them, with the parental consent the organiser collects; without consent the entry stays pending. See Entrants, start times and unlocking.

I disagree with a penalty: who corrects it?

Race control. The service's calculation is the starting point: the clerk of the course can change or cancel a penalty, mark a waypoint by hand or record a timekeepers' time, always with a reason that stays in the log. In your replay and in the report you see the calculated value and the decided one. Protests and appeals follow the race regulations.
